Among the most important and sophisticated museums of Paris, the Jacquemart-André Museum boasts the largest collection in France, after the Louvre, of Florentine Renaissance, thanks to the hundreds of masterpieces purchased in the late nineteenth century in Florence, from the atelier of the famous antiquarian Stefano Bardini (or through him). The book is the catalog of the exhibition held in Florence from September 6 th to December 31 st , 2013. It presents about forty works, including paintings by Botticelli, Mantegna, Paolo Uccello, Luca Signorelli, Alessio Baldovinetti, sculptures by Giambologna and Donatello, bronzes, furniture and ceramics. The contributions of qualified scholars analyze the epoch of the great Florentine antique dealers, focusing on the figure of Stefano Bardini, the “prince of the antiquarians”, who influenced for decades the art market.
